Starting with the basics…content, content, content!
Website Building
Apr 18, 2011

"Your website helps your fans, bloggers, and journalists find out who you are, what you sound like, and where you’re playing. It’s important that your website contains content for all types of visitors, from fans - current and potential - to booking agents and media outlets."

We couldn't agree more!  Starting a website can be overwhelming but much less so if you begin with great content.  The first step to generating accurate content is to create a clear music mission.

The next step is updating bios, photos, recordings, contact information, videos, and other material that clearly convey that mission. This article lists and highlights 10 pieces of essential content for your site. It's helpful if you are starting a website from scratch (which we can help you with) or are revamping a site that is already live.

Inexpensive, simple websites for musicians
Website Building
Mar 23, 2011

If you've taken our website building class or seen our articles on starting websites, you know that we believe having a music website can be easy and affordable.  There are lots of tools for DIY-folks (and of course we love helping people who want a little guidance or who don't have the time to do it themselves!)  Below is another point of view on getting started; same ideas, different author.

We'd add Rock-N-Roll-Design to the top of the list of pay-as-you-go/web site builders.  We've worked with them for nearly 10 years and love their service.  We'd also add Active Domain as our favorite registrar (there are others, too).  But the gist of the article is right on:

"I think that most artists get themselves crazy building web sites because they have trouble keeping it simple, and this is the key. Your web site is there to do two things. Number one: Help you engage with and make new fans. Number two: Make you money. That’s it."

We'd encourage you to clarify even further what you want your website to do in terms of making money.  Do you want to build your fan base, increase your show attendance, book more gigs, or sell more CDs?  Yes, you want to do all of these things, but what's your top priority?  Answering that question will help you refine your site and encourage the activity you're excited about.
